How to play Teen Patti: rules and hand rankings

Classic Teen Patti uses a 52-card deck without jokers and gives each player three cards. Compare trail, pure sequence, sequence, colour, pair and high card, then follow the table’s blind or seen controls.

This guide covers the classic format. The selected table’s variation rules determine its exact limits and hand order.

Step by step

  1. Choose a table and read its boot amount and variation rules.
  2. Each player receives three cards. Blind play keeps the cards unseen; seen play lets you inspect your hand.
  3. On your turn, use the available chip action or fold. Follow the table's limits for blind and seen play.
  4. At a show, compare hands using the in-game ranking guide. The winning hand takes the virtual-chip pot.

Joker, Hukam, Muflis, Royal, AK47 and Pot Blind change the standard format. Read the selected mode's rules first. Chips in Teen Patti Gold cannot be redeemed for cash.

Teen Patti hand rankings: highest to lowest

Use this chart for classic three-card Teen Patti without wild cards. Identify the category first; a higher category beats a lower one.

The six standard hand categories, strongest first
RankHandExampleHow to recognise it
1Trail / Trio9♣ 9♦ 9♥Three cards of the same rank.
2Pure sequence / Straight flush8♥ 9♥ 10♥Three consecutive ranks in one suit.
3Sequence / Straight6♣ 7♦ 8♥Three consecutive ranks, with mixed suits.
4Colour / FlushA♠ J♠ 9♠One suit, without consecutive ranks.
5PairK♣ K♥ 4♦Two matching ranks and one other card.
6High cardA♦ J♣ 7♥No pair, sequence or colour.

Within a pair, compare the pair’s rank before the remaining card. Ace-sequence ordering and tied-hand outcomes should be checked in the selected table’s Help screen.

Blind vs seen: what changes?

Blind means you have not inspected your cards; seen means you have. In the common betting format below, looking changes the permitted chip amount. The current stake is the table’s reference amount, not the total pot.

Common limits with a current stake of 10 virtual chips
Play typeCards inspected?Usual chip rangeExample
BlindNo1× to 2× the stake10 or 20 chips
SeenYes2× to 4× the stake20 or 40 chips

A blind contribution of 20 makes the next stake 20 in this format. A seen contribution of 20 leaves it at 10. An app can use other limits, so follow its displayed controls.

Three hand-comparison examples

  • 9♣ 9♦ 9♥ beats Q♠ J♠ 10♠. A trail outranks a pure sequence, even though the pure sequence has higher individual cards.
  • 6♣ 7♦ 8♥ beats A♠ J♠ 9♠. A sequence outranks a colour. The ace does not move the colour into a higher category.
  • K♣ K♥ 4♦ beats Q♦ Q♠ A♣. Both are pairs. Compare kings against queens before looking at the third card.

Show, sideshow and folding

A pack or fold ends your participation in that hand. If everyone else folds, the last remaining player takes the pot. A show compares the final two hands; the table’s blind/seen rules determine who can request it and its chip cost.

A sideshow compares two eligible seen players privately, commonly with the previous player. It can be declined. When accepted, the weaker hand leaves the round. Read the table’s tied-hand rule before requesting either comparison.

Teen Patti rules FAQ

What is the highest hand in classic Teen Patti?

A trail is the highest category. Three aces are the strongest trail in the standard ranking. Wild-card and low-hand variations can use different rules.

Does a sequence beat a colour?

Yes. In classic Teen Patti, a sequence ranks above a colour. Compare the category before comparing individual cards.

Is A-2-3 or A-K-Q the highest sequence?

The traditional rules documented by Pagat place A-2-3 above A-K-Q. Check the selected app’s ranking chart before applying that order to its table or variation.

Can a blind player look at their cards later?

In the usual format, looking at your cards changes you to seen play. From then on, use the seen-player chip limits shown by the table.

Why might Show or Sideshow be unavailable?

A standard show needs only two players remaining. A sideshow is a separate comparison involving eligible seen players. The table can also impose turn, payment or variation conditions.

Does knowing the rankings guarantee a win?

No. A ranking chart helps you compare hands correctly. It cannot predict the cards or guarantee the result of a round.
